I am 32 weeks pregnant and for the past week I have been having lots of contractions, which I relize they could be braxton hicks. I went to the doc. because I have started getting sick again after I eat and lightheaded like crazy, they kept me in there and said that the baby was setting on a nerve and thats what made me lightheaded but I was having to many contractions for being 32weeks. My husband was premature as well. I just have a few questions for people who have experienced these things so I can notice them myself. My son has already dropped, how long after he drops does it take for labor to start? Also does everyone get this burst of energy befor labor? should I stop having sex now just incase that is helping it along? and finally what all should I pack for the hospital? Thanks for all your advice I appreciate it!

I know to ask the doc. these questions but I just want to know some of your experiences to see if you went through it as well.

Now having sex will make you have contractions and also help you when you are in labor. Sex also speed up your labor. I just had my 3rd child 1mth and 3days ago and had them all at 38 wks. After sex I was in labor for only 2-3 hrs, but you have sex from the back just a little ruff. So sex is ok just depends on how hard you are doing it. There is no way to stop contractions. When you start having them every 5min then you need to start going to the Hospital because after 2min apart then that baby is coming like in a few mins. How often are you having them? These are the following items that you need for yourself and the baby:

FOR MOM:Sleepwear
Bathrobe
Socks
Slippers
Maternity underwear
Nursing bra
Breast pads
Change of clothes and comfortable shoes to wear home
Toiletries, including toothbrush
Hair band, if applicable
Lip moisturizer
Sanitary napkins
Massage oils or lotions
Breath mints and snacks
Relaxation materials: books, magazines, music
Eyeglasses, if applicable
Cell phone and list of important phone numbers

FOR BABY:Newborn diapers
Receiving blankets
Newborn clothes
Socks or booties
Infant hat
Infant car seat

if you already dropped it kinda sounds like you may be further along than they think you are. dropping usually occurs 2-4 weeks before delivery.

i contrated my entire pregnancy, and my baby didn't come until 39 weeks. i know of someone else who contracted more than i did the whole time and her baby didn't come until 40 weeks. generally don't worry about b-h contractions unless they become regular, you have pain, or your water breaks (i always wondered what this would feel like, but trust me, there's no mistaking it. it's like you all of a sudden loose control of your bladder! but the water is coming not exactly from that place).

sorry about the return of morning sickness - that sucks. that's not common, but it does happen. you're just extra special i guess! :)

having sex can help delivery come sooner, but to tell you the truth, alot of other things have to be ready first in order for sex to really make a difference (i.e. the baby's lungs release a chemical that tells your body that she's ready to come out). while it's true that semen contains a chemical that helps to ripen the cervix and help labor come on, again - this won't happen unless the baby is ready to come. i wouldn't worry about this too much but be sure to consult with your doctor.

having the burst of energy is normal - it's called nesting. it can come weeks to days before going into labor. again, when you get it, you can't say "oh! just 2 more weeks" - it's just another sign that you're getting close.

packing - the other person's list is pretty good - a little bit too much for me personally ( but then again, i'm a minimalist.) my advice is just take what you will need - you're not going to be doing much of anything other than sleeping and nursing/feeding baby. don't forget to pack a bag for your hubby - don't forget to pack some snacks and extra food for afterwards - hospital food sucks.

be sure to consult with your o.b. if you have any questions/doubts/concerns. you seem to have a special situation with that nerve thing - never heard of that. i've heard of the uterus getting so big it compresses a major blood vessel but not a nerve! just be sure you no longer lay on your back - lay on your side. laying on your side will also help while in labor (to help increase blood return to your heart).

congrats! and good luck!

After my child had turned it was approximately 4 weeks I believe. I was actually induced because I wouldn't dilate. I did not have the burst of energy before I went into labor but it did not decrease either. I stayed about the same. As far as things to pack for the hospital... deodorant, tooth brush, clothes to change into when you are leaving the hospital, something for the baby to wear for pictures and something to wear home, socks, and something comfortable to sleep in or walk around the hospital in. Best of luck...

I think every person is different, but i tell you now as soon as that little angel comes onto earth you will forget about all the contractions, you will forget about all the doctors, and whatever pain you might have had, will be gone, and your hubby will only see this beautiful creation. as soon as it is time to give birth you will be so excited that your body will kick into over drive. having sex does seam to speed things up, but the baby will come when he is ready. no sooner no later. You will be fine. I love to look back on this web sight. It is babycenter.com go ahead look it up. And congratulations.
