Female is 1 week into heat--receptive to male and allows mounting but male does not follow through once he has mounted her. He mounts her and goes through the motions and then dismounts. Could it be because she is still to early in her heat time? This is my first time with these two dogs and can use all the help that there is.

First I hope both of these dogs are at least 2 years old and that they have had and passed all health exams (not just simple vet exams) and that they have been evaluated or shown to prove breed worthiness.
Secondly a dog usually isn't ready to be bred until at least 10 days after heat has started. If it is the first time breeding for either one of these dogs then they might need some help.I suggest that you get a person experienced in breeding & with your breed to help you.

They need time alone. not alot of distraction. so they can do there thing. It may take a few days. I have breed my boxer and it took them a few dates. LOL to get it right and just leaving them for a few hours they will go back and forth playing but they eventually will get it. Good Luck... Puppies are lots of work.

Using a maiden ***** and an unused stud is not a very good idea. NEITHER of them really know what to do.

Unused males will often need 'help'.

If you do not know the basics, why are you breeding??? This is the EASY part!

ITS POSSIBLE SHE IS JUST TOO EARLY ON. HE COULD BE TOO YOUNG AS WELL. HE SHOULD BE AT LEAST 1.5 YEARS AND SHE SHOULD BE AT LEAST 2. I WOULD GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE TIME, IF THEY ARE THE RIGHT AGE. I BELIEVE VETS HAVE DIFFERENT CHEMICALS THAT CAN GET HIM INTO THE SWING OF THINGS. YOU CAN ALSO TRY KEEPING THEM APART FROM ONE ANOTHER FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS AND THEN RE-INTRODUCING THEM TO EACH OTHER. THE SEPERATION MAY MAKE HIM REALIZE WHAT HE'S SUPPOSED TO DO. GOOD LUCK!

most likely your female is too tense and tight. unfortunately you just need to let nature take its course. you can provide them with a quiet area without distraction but aside from that i dont think there is much else you can do. good luck i hope you get your puppys

Maybe the male is too young and doesn't know what he is doing? I am not being silly, this happend to my male before he was mature.
