Go to mapquest and print a map of NC. The middle portion of the state would be the piedmont. It is between the coast and the mountains. I grew up in the piedmont of SC. Go to any atlas on-line and do the same or just Google piedmont NC to see what pops up. I do believe my momma's relatives live in the piedmont of NC. Cherryville, Lincolnton, Charlotte, Bessimer City areas like that.
