My students want to know what happens to a person who touches the Torah scrolls while reading.

ok, nothing.... im jewish...
the reason we dont touch the torah is because it is handwritten on parchment. to handwrite a book that long takes about a year, seriously, every torah is worked on for approx 1 year, also only certain people called schrollers are allowed to write it. the reason we dont touch is for respect and so not to ruin. it is a very delicate book and we dont want to take chances. hads can be dirty or full of oil and so on.... dont want to riun a book that costs 400 dollars++ right?
