When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, when you ask Him to come into your heart. You will know. You will feel reborn, like a ton of weight has been lifted off of you. You have a craving for God. You have a strong urge to change your lifestyle and become the best person you can become, you don't want to disappoint God. It's a strong and precious feeling.

A born again christian is a person who is saved. They are the ones who accepted Christ as saviour. The reason why it is called Born again is because when u accept Christ, you will be a new creation, old things will pass away. You will be born again not in the flesh but in the spirit.
John 3:3
"No one can see the kingdom of God unless you are Born again."

Study Acts 2:38 a good starting point. Basically being born again is of the water and the spirit. The spirit is the Holy Ghost, the spirit of God living in you, (the comforter ). God, wrote his plan clearly. Unless all the steps listed in Acts 2:38 are followed, there is no being born again, any other way. He intended for all people to follow his plan, to be born again. Best regards.

a born again christian is actually a christian, that has actually been through the born again process to recieve that status and acts "christ like" and the born again process is explained in the book of John 3:1-12 and in Acts 2:38. If you dont follow that process you really have to consider if your actually a christian

I was rasied Chatholic and beleived that Jesus was the Son of God and that christianity was true but I was not born again so according to what the Bible says, I was not really a christian though I thought I was. Becoming a born again christian is simple being saved from sin (a human condition) by Gods graces not our works or good deeds(God says we can not save ourselves by our own deeds.) This site might prove helpful, good luck and God Bless. www.bpsmilford.org

When you ask Jesus to forgive you of your sin and accept Him as your Lord and Savior, there is a spiritual life born in you, for me it was an incredible experience, suddenly I could read the bible and actually understand what it was saying and it agreed with a new found feeling within me. As Jesus told Nicodemus, except a man be born again he shall surely not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This statement perplexed the older scholar who countered "how can a man be born a second time?" It made no sense to him and still makes no sense to those who do not believe.
The cross of Christ is foolishness to those who are perishing but it is the breath of life for those who believe.

When a person is born spiritually of God. Jesus said that to see the Kingdom of God, one must be born of the Spirit. This is the spiritual birth. The first person is born from the water (natural birth), the second person is born of the Spirit (spiritual birth), born of God. Inherit the Kingdom of God.
Heart faith. Believing in the heart. God looks at the heart. Faith.
When a person confesses to God repenting for not believing in His One and Only Begotten Son. Confessing Jesus Christ, Son of God, LORD. That Jesus shed His own blood for the remission of ones sins. Believing in ones heart He rose from the dead.
With true heart confession, is true heart conversion. One is born of the spirit, is a born-again christian, is a child of God.
Every child of God has been given the Holy Spirit of Truth & Comfort. It will be in them. This is the Holy Spirit baptism. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is having the Oil in our lamps. That means being ready for the return of Jesus Christ. Are you ready?
Just to clarify some errors written in other answers. People of the NT early churches were sometimes filled with the Holy Spirit before water baptism. Read the Bible for confirmation.
Even when Jesus walked the earth, He blew the spirit on some of His disciples saying, "Receive ye the Holy Spirit. Whose soever sins you remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained." John 20:22.
Water baptism is not required to be born again or to be filled with the Holy Spirit. To be water baptised is being obedient to God to be a witness to the world what God has done for you. The old man is dead and the new man in Christ is alive forever more. It represents the new birth. Some people do get born again during water baptism then and then get filled with the Holy Spirit. Because the born again experience happens with honest heart faith in the Word of God. It doesn't always happen in the same order. God looks at the heart. A person could be water baptized with no heart faith, and person actually just got wet. No born-again experience.

It means to be born again by the water and the spirit. (John 3) Once a believer accepts Jesus as Lord, he is baptized for the forgiveness of sins and gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
Once this happens you really start to become a different person and live your life for God. Being reborn is the essence of living life for God and not for your sinful nature. (Galatians 5:16)

I think the question should be: if you're Christian why don't you know what to be born again means.
Born again means to get rid of the old self and become new in Jesus Christ, meaning lead your life as Christ leads his.

To be born again in the christian sense is to have a total transformation thru Christ Jesus in that you shed your fleshly self as does a snake (in a spiritual sense) and live your live anew in Christ. It is a complete transformation in some people it happens instantly to the extreme and in others it is a slower process, it depends on the person on how far and with what strength one reaches to Jesus. I recommend reaching the hardest and the most in depth and one will experience relationship with Him to the absolute fullest. It is very fulfilling and much more because of the promise we have in our future with him.
