Your doctor will probably request that you bring a stool sample for testing in the lab. Then if it's found that you have some type of parasite, there are medicines that can destroy it. Some clues that you might have a tapeworm are sudden weight loss even though you are eating a normal diet; unexplained fatigue or loss of muscle strength. Tapeworms come from eating contaminated food, uncooked or undercooked pork, or foods that have been prepared by infected food handlers who failed to wash their hands after using the bathroom. If you think you have come in contact with any of this, see your doctor right away.

Most people who are infected with tapeworm don't show symptoms. However, you may notice tapeworm eggs, larvae or proglottids — segments of the adult tapeworm — in your stool.

Other signs and symptoms include:

* Nausea
* Weakness
* Loss of appetite
* Abdominal pain
* Diarrhea
* Weight loss

More serious tapeworm infections can cause organ and tissue damage, resulting in vitamin deficiencies, fever or seizures.

Look in your stools to see if there are tapeworm eggs present. This requires using a microscope I think.

Go to a doctor ASAP if you think you have tapeworm. I think it is contagious; the eggs can be spread by contact with your stools.

Q: Who can use 'we' when speaking of themself?
