That is his MOS, in other words what his job in the Army is. It has nothing to do with his rank (although some MOS's get promoted faster than others). It's just a code that tells what he does. The Army has tons of codes and abbreviations and initals for almost everything. My husband is a 42A, which is Personnel Management. He used to drive tanks, which had a different code. I'm not sure what a 14A is, but the first person who answered is probably right. By the way, they would say 14 A, as "14 Alpha."

14 denotes Air force but 14A doesn't exist. There is 14E, 14J,
14M, 14R, 14S, and 14T. In training for highschoolers, such as ROTC 14A is a lesson teaching leadership. Otherwise if military equipment is labeled 14A it means its certified and good.
The person you met must have been a 14R and you misread it or something, if that is the case 14R is a Bradley Linebacker Crewmember.

I've never heard of a 14A, PFC etc. but never 14A.

Its his mos code, I was a 13P, which was Fire Direction Specialists, MLRS. The lower numbers are more the combat arms jobs, and the higher the number the easier the job...
