customer service is a thing of the past. Cutting costs is the here and now...there isn't money to pay anyone to provide customer service. Besides, everyone is cranky that their paycheck goes into the gas tank so they can go to a job they hate.

I have to say the best place that I know of for great and genuine customer service is National City Bank. The customer access team was set in place to help customers with any situation or problem they might need assistance with. They will go that extra mile to assist you until you are satisfied. They wouldn't be a top 10 company in the USA without merit.

Since you have asked this question in relation to Dining, not computers or banks, I assume you would appreciate an answer related to dining!
If you make it into the country you will find great customer service at Poachers in South Warnborough, Hampshire. This is an unassuming pub (with which I have NO connection) that knows how to cook great, unpretentious food, and delivers a level of customer service that I find remarkable. Example: I recently went there and ordered a Tuna steak. It arrived somewhat overcooked. I was commenting on this to my wife as a waitress passed by. She overheard the comment, called the owner who, without having been prompted by me, came across and offered to replace the meal. They cooked me another Tuna steak and it was excellent.
That is what I call great customer service when dining.

Very good question? I've also been asking myself that lately? You just cant find good customer service anywhere. My view is that if someone works in customer service, and they do not want to service the customer... that means they suck at their job. They just don't realize that. They just act likes its such an inconvenience that you are bothering them. So frustrating!

well I work as a Customer Service rep, and I admit I am genuine to only about 10-15% of all of my customers.
as bad as it sounds, I am only genuinely nice to those that seem genuinely nice to me, those that I find attractive, and sometimes returning customers that I recognize.

American Express. Those people are customer service gods. Every time i have had a problem the very first person i speak to sorts it out.

If your lucky on a British Airways Flight. I have had good service in a Greek restuarant in London before they slapped on the service charge.

The problem is customers expect more and more. I believe I give great customer service in my job but even thats not enough for some people. The fact is you can't please everyone and some people expect miracles.
