I am actually trying to get a serious answer here. I know the obvious answer is simply 'muffins,' but I'd like to get that verified. After all, we Americans still call it 'American cheese.'
Other items I'm curious about:
Canadian bacon
Swiss cheese
French toast
Brazil nuts

Lol, I was actually serious, although I suppose I did come off a bit sarcastic.

I don't think they have English muffins in England; English muffins are an attempt at crumpets, I think.
Canadians call Canadian bacon back bacon.
The Swiss refer to cheese by its specific place of origin, such as Gruyeres, Emmental, Appenzeller. Some cheeses have names, then they use them, like "tete de moine" which means "monk's head". No Swiss person would call those Kraft slices with holes in them "cheese" much less "Swiss".
French toast is called pain doré (golden bread)--possibly only in Quebec

Believe it or not, english muffins are CRUMPETS. I found that out in a cook book. As for the rest, I have a hard time believing you are serious about those.

English muffins are call just 'muffins' in England. they are different from crumpets. Muffins can be split in two and buttered on the inside. Crumpets are one layer and are buttered on top.

in my understanding crumpets and english muffins are different. We call english muffins, english muffins. Crumpets have lots of little holes in them, ideal for drenching in butter...yum. And french toast is eggy bread.

Though I'm not sure about the French, French Cajuns refer to French toast as "pain perdu", meaning "lost bread", since it's a good way to use up stale bread.
