Never - you stoop to their level and you are no better than they are.

You could never get away with an eye for an eye anyway (not in the literal sense) purely because you will then be guilty of the same crime. For all of those that belive in the death penalty, that is the ultimate crime as life is the one thing that should never be taken. Bring back a hard graft instead of cushy prisons by any means, and make life sentences mean life, but murdering someone for their crimes leaves you with the receiving end of another "eye for an eye".

This commandment in the Torah (Old Testament) is usually misunderstood to mean "punish the bastard(s)".

It was originally given to avoid excess retribution like the vendettas you see today in Iraq and formerly in Northern Ireland and amongst gangsters at any time, Mafia, Triads etc., or where I bump into you in a nightclub and you beat me up outside, then my mates come and shoot you.

Maybe the Israeli Army should remember it nowadays (3 for 1 in Palestine since 2000, 10 for 1 in Lebanon).

I think that you could take the pound of flesh - but you cannot take one ounce of blood

That would be outside the bounds of the agreement

stop and think to find the best way to solve the situation. I do not agree with "turn the other cheek" but I don't agree with the first one either. Should take responsibility and make a good use of it in favor of oneself and the loved ones, not hurting yourself neither the others. The cure of an illness is avoidance.

I believe the right wording is:not more than an eye for an eye,or a tooth for a tooth. In other words,if you feel you have to take revenge, don't over-do it.

" Now the Spirit speaks expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy..."(1Tim.4:1)

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false prophets among you, who shall privately bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, bring swift destruction upon themselves". (2 Peter 2:1),

"Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is anti-Christ, that denies the Father and the Son. He that denies the Son, the same has not the Father." (I John 2:22)

I think an eye for an eye is wrong. What if it was an accident? I really hate Hammurabi's Code...
