I heard this once and I have been trying to find it since. Essentially Rogers says that families are proud of their relatives who die in a war, and how we will always have wars as long as we view death in warfare as being more glorious than say being run over by a truck.

I'm looking for the exact quote, preferably with references.

iheartaug: I heard it on a tlevision programme on PBS a few years back. I just caught the edge of the programme and there was this quote that was attributed to Will Rogers. I wish I knew what the programme was. I've been looking for a whiile, too.
If you ever find it post it. I appreciate the time you put, thanks.

You piqued my curiosity, so I just spent about 15 minutes searching the net and I couldn't find anything. Are you sure it's Will Rogers? Sounds like an interesting and provocative quote. I'd like to know the quote now too!

I believe it was one of Garrison Keillor's spoken essays on "Prairie Home Companion."
