sadly this has happened,, just as it does in civilian neighborhoods,, every day,,, you can take the rapist out of their hometown into the military but you can't change their mind-set, just as the great and honorable majority of US troops can try their darnedest to keep the peace in a civil war that our commander in chief and his crony Rumsfeld have crested in Iraq,,, they just want to win their war,, to hell with the civilians who are suffering everyday,, and to the lost and wounded,, it's barbaric to assume that we could seek to have power over their hearts and minds,,, Cheney still hasn't received flowers as promised,, nor did Iraqi oil pay for their venture invasion, no WMD regardless of the crazies like Rick Sanatorium, and other fiscal conservatives who would argue with a snake,,,,

I don't believe it propaganda by the media, Not American here Irish but when I say what the US army where doing to the Iraq prisoners there abusing then and setting dogs on them etc. The world was shocked and applaud at this behavior. Remember Vietnam sadly loads of women there where raped during the war there. Thank God our country is neutral here. Only domestic flights from the states are allowed here. But any planes which have weapons for Iraq are not allowed into Irish airspace or land here for refulled etc. But the got into trouble here when the Irish police got a tip of at Shannon Airport that prisoners where on so called domestic flight from Iraq landing at Shannon, the Irish police found that the US were lying and they had prisoner handcuffed to the seats on the plane. So been on Irish soil they had to let the prisoners off the plane here, an order by the Irish government minister it was on our TV showing the prisoners walking off the plane. Next day the US embassy wouldn't issue a statement I wonder why?

Like I've said in another post. These kind of things happen...Sad as it is, it does, and not only in our military, it's all around the world. Just because of what these four soldiers have done (the ones on trial), it does NOT mean all of our soldiers are doing the same. It's so sad how one mistake by even one person can turn the whole bunch rotten. Like mentioned above from a few posts the U.S will not tolerate these kinds of behavior from anyone in our military and will get death sentence.
Please don't let these actions by these bad apples lessen your like of our military...Support our troops!

Individuals commit crimes. When the individual is in the military they often use the "I was just following orders." excuse to commit them. This appears to be the case in Iraq.
Do not jump to the false assumption that they were doing this under the auspices of the military. They were not.
Now that they have been formally charged and will be put on trial, people will see that the US will not tolerate this type of behavior, especially in its military.
One interesting note with respect to this case. Some of the analysts are already saying this could result in the first death penalties in the military in over 40 years.

At least one soldier stands accused of killing a 14 year old Iraqi girl's mother, father, and younger sisters, and then raping and killing her.

Young lady, there has been 1 reported incident by the Iraqi Government and the US Military. 4 men are alleged to have raped a young girl. This incident is less than 00.01% of the US Military.
Justice Statistics for 2005 www.arthurhu.com
For 100,000 US Citizens there are over 270 rape cases.
It is pure propaganda. And if the soldiers are found guilty in a courts-martial and sentenced to death, then that is the punishment all RAPIST deserve military or CIVILIAN!

i'm sure they are, but probably not as often as some people in iraq would have us think. men in america don't seem to be able to stop reaping women, so why would they stop in iraq when they run the country, have lots of big guns to back them up, and the culture has a history of oppressing women?

Unfortunately... soldiers have done that in every war in history. It is a horrible by product of the machine called war. I don't know if they are or not in this war, but they have in the past. Yiu would think it would have stopped by now? Or never had taken place to begin with.
It is like the crusades all over again... Humiliation! and it never ever heals... It is generational.

About 1% of the US population is criminal, with at least 10% of those being violent felons. So, with 150K troops overseas, there's a reasonably good chance that dozens if not hundreds of individual soliders are committing violent crimes.
