You need OCR software to scan it into .... the one below is free.

A scanned document is an image, just as if you'd taken a picture of it. You can't enter it into Word except via "insert picture".... and, obviously, you can't then edit it as a text document.

You'll need a conversion package to convert the pdf... or an OCR programme to take the scanned image and turn it back into text. OCR applications can be ether very good or very bad, it really depends on how much you spend, and how much time you are willing to send working with them... so the conversion would seem to be your best bet.

Here's a couple of places to look:

If your scanner's software has an "OCR" (Optical Character Recognition) feature, that's what you need to use. Otherwise, the document will be scanned as a picture rather than as text.

OCR -- I think it means "optical character recognition". You can scan a document -- it will translate and give you it's "best guess" which is pretty close in Word.

but if it's just a .pdf, why not just cut and paste?

Does your scanner have OCR software? This will allow you to send it to MS Word.

Be sure to proofread the document carefully--OCR is not perfect. There may be stray marks on the resulting document--just select and cut these.

Search online for a file converter that works for the kind of documents your talking about.
