How to tell if a cockatiel will be laying eggs?

Hopefully your bird is hand-tame -- if not get a towel or oven mitt and perform the following steps:

1. Hold bird gently upside down.
2. Look towards the base of the tailfeathers (where they connect to the bird).
3. Try to see if there is a bulge or not. If there's a bulge, the egg is on its way!!!

That's how we did it anyway.

My female starts getting moody... just like us girls.... she will start to nip at you when you put the food and water in the cage... you may see her clearing a space in the bottom of the cage.. mine would peck and tear all of the newspaper out of a corner in the bottom of the cage.... or if you have a separate nesting box...she might hide out in there.....cockatiels like it dark and calm in their breeding spots....which is what signals the breeding in the first place.......

from my experience, the female usually spends a majority of her time in the nest box. i' even had a female who was happy to lay on the bottom of the cage.
