Try eating something before you ever have a drink. Keep munching the entire evening. Of course, this can backfire; the salty snacks making you even more thirsty. Or you can try alternating drinks with plain soda. However, since you seem to have a low tolerance for alcoholic beverages, your best bet is not to drink at all. Stick to plain ginger ale, 7up or soda. Alcoholism often begins with innocent social drinking. Your statement that you find it hard to stop, makes me shudder. Above all, and this is extremely important -- if you absolutely feel you must drink, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!

You need to find a support group like AA. It's the only way. My husband was the same way. Used to only drink once or twice a month but when he got started he just didn't stop till he was practically comatose. Finally he went and got help and hasnt' touched a drink since. He doesn't really miss it at all either. It was getting to the point where it was ruining our marriage too but fortunately he came to his senses and realized he had a problem.
A support group helps you in many ways. First it lets you know there are plenty just like you with the same problem, and they really do help you gain the confidence and strength to do it.

try getting addicted to something else like exercise or some other sort of hobby. it's hard to go out for a drink when it turns into 10 drinks. if you're doing terrible things and can't hold your alchohol, then seek some help. how about alcoholics anonymous? i'm not calling you an alcoholic but they seem to help many people. what about the people that you socially drink with? any help available there?

You say you're a "social drinker". Is there such a thing?
At any rate, avoid the situations where you drink for a while. Build up your resolve. Remember all those embarrasing moments. Drink, but not too much. It took me a while to learn my limits.

Maybe you should consider getting professional help and start going to AA meetings. Otherwise, if you feel you cannot resist once you are at the party, just don't go. That is the sacrifice you have to make for your dignity, health, and ultimately life.

get out and away from the drinking scene for awhile. i mean until you dont drink anymore and you are not around anyone that does drink. do other things for fun, and keep telling yourself "no i cant have that stuff anymore" and just let it go.
get friends that dont drink either, find other fun things to do with friends than just going out to drink and party. theres a whole different side of you you probably havent even gotten to know that can enjoy having alot of fun without having to drink to do it. remind yourself that alcohol makes you age faster, its bad for your skin and your liver, and your stomach lining, and your brain, and your reputation, and self respect. its better for you to be healthier, keep away from the heavy drinking or drinking at all until you get past the whole drinking need altogether. give yourself time, and keep telling yourself you can do it. goodluck!

The factor is if it way 'I give up ingesting' to you, it does not ought to make experience to anybody else.

Pray to God for the strength to just stop... You can ONLY do it with His help...
If you're at the beginning of the abuse phase, this shouldn't be that hard a thing to do...
My 1st day of sobriety is 7/10/06 and I DON'T WANT to go back... Just got waaaaaay too close the edge...!
I'll pray for you, too...
