Boarder collies need an EXTREME amount of exersize. All the exersize you can give him probably won't be enough. They were bred to run ALL DAY herding sheep.

Look up activities for dogs. Fly ball is a good one, so is agility. You may even be able to find herding classes for him. Ask your vet and at pet stores.

Get a bicycle and take him on long runs. An hour or two running by a bicycle every day should do him a lot of good. There is special equipment to make it easier. Look at www.drsfosterandsmith.com

Good Luck

30 minutes of good hard running is usually enough, you must work them daily when there young or they will tear up your house, these dogs were breed to work all day, so they get bored easily and will act out. My Border Collie is 4 and she loves to swim in the pond and chase and push basketballs around the yard and in the pond. You have to be careful though because they don't when to quit and will run themselves to death.

I take my Dalmatians out for 2 to 3 hours a day.

At least 3, preferably more like 5 or more, but at least 3 as a minimum...

The real answer is to have them on a farm or other very large property and let them run at their leisure and when you have a job for them... they are truely happiest when they are working.
