Use Windows XP Backup program to backup your files on CD-RWs.

All versions of Windows include backup programs—but they do not always install themselves by default (XP Home, for example).

To install the Windows backup program: Put the original installation disk in your CD drive and navigate to the folder called /Valueadd/msft/ntbackup.

You will see a file entitled ntbackup.msi. Double-click this file and it will install the free backup program. The free backup program will then appear in the Systems Tools folder (click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Backup). You can now put (backup) the data on another computer, another hard drive, a CD.

Computer programs tend to install files and bits all through Windows. This can make transferring programs from one computer to another difficult—if any part of a program is not copied to the new computer, that program may not run properly, if at all. This is another reason to consider doing a fresh download into the new machine.

If you do not have a network, connect the two computers together using Ethernet crossover cables or Universal Serial Bus cables for best (and fastest) results.

Windows XP has a transfer utility called the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. This will transfer data and Windows settings but will not transfer programs.
To use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard: Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.

If you have an existing network (or you wish to create a network, you can connect both computers to this network. Then you can use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Windows XP described above. Again, this will transfer data and Windows settings but will not transfer programs.

There are programs available to transfer your programs and data to the new computer.
•Alohabob PC Relocator Ultra control http://www.eisenworld.com ($69.95) includes a USB cable to connect the two computers together. Alohabob will also transfer Windows settings.
•Move Me http://www.spearit.com ($39.95) will also transfer Windows settings. IntelliMover http://www.detto.com/intellimover ($49.95) will transfer data and settings but not programs. IntelliMover also includes cables.
•Desktop DNA Professional http://www.ca.miramar.com ($39.95) will transfer data and settings but not programs.

The simplest way is to just buy an external hard drive that plugs into one of your USB ports. You can find them for about $100 and up. They come with software that lets you select what you want backed up and how often. I do a full backup on my desktop machine once a week. If your existing hard drive goes belly-up, you can restore everything to your new drive. Also, you get to sleep better at night.

Not nessesary a program you can do this by urself...
gather all the data you want, and if you want full function of the programs, copy the programs from "Program Files" root directory and compress it so it can fit on a cd(s) then uncompress it and everything will be functional again....
