I feel like crying now that i read everybody's comments. I feel so sad for him and his family. At least he died doing what he loves. I wish i could make a fortune doing what i love. But I don't know how much they pay to horseback ride. Like everybody else (who has a heart) said, may he rest in peace. I am sorry you are so distressed about this, i hope you feel better. And yes, i do feel the same.

I know exactly how you feel. I saw that article yesterday on accident, and for about 15 minutes I just didn't do anything at all except stare at my screen. I would have burst into tears if I hadn't been so shocked. I just can't imagine Steve Irwin dying. It was even harder to imagine since a picture of him alive was right there in front of me. I found it so strange that although he had dealt with thousands of poisonous snakes, dangerous sharks, and other animals, he was killed by a sting ray by just doing a documentary. He wasn't wrestling with it or anything. The times where he isn't really being dangerous is the type of time in which he is killed. I used to watch him all the time...I hope his family is able to recover from it well. I can only barely imagine how hard it is for them, if all of us here feel so badly and we didn't even know him.

Okay..yes, I have.
I didn't know him personally, but have watched him for years.
I have seen on tv, people at his zoo being interviewed about him. They are crying and saying it was like loosing a brother, a son or a friend.
Steve was very down to earth. He seemed like a very caring, kind, respectable man.
I have been upset since I heard his news, and i am having a hard time watching his shows on AP.
My sons were upset, but my older one that is 12 was the most upset. He was up till 12midnight crying. He was so upset and wanted to know if it was okay if he cried, tho he didn't know him.
I said yes, its a natural feeling and you grew up watching him.
God Bless his family and may he rest in peace..
and we keep up his dream.

I don't feel like crying, but I was shocked...he knew the dangers he was playing with and he made a mistake..a very costly one. The animals that made him famous were all very dangerous...he lived by the sword and died by the barb. There is a lot of irony in this. He was entertaining, taught a lot about animals I will never come in contact with. But I do know Sting Rays and will not play with them. I am sure he was wrestling with a large one, they are very slippery, and are all muscle. That barb can be thrown up at any time...if his body was in the way, he knew he was in for some serious crap....and he misplayed his hand. I am sorry this has thrown you for a loop. Good luck

I am very sad too. He was such a great human being who loves all creatures creepy crawly or otherwise. He is loved the world over. It's so sudden and tragic.

I liked his enthusiasm for the animals. He really loved what he did and because he was so throroughly involved with the animals we also got some of his zest and love for them through his enthusiasm.
That's what I liked the most about Steve Irwin.
And even if I was sitting in my living room in California watching his program, somehow you felt like you were right there "in the mud" with him.
I always love watching nature shows, but his were especially good because he went out of his way to draw you in and involve you in his joy for the animals also.
