The pain comes and goes. It was usually quick like a lightening bolt...but recently it has lasted longer...I checked out apendicitus and other things...but I have no other symptoms...just random pain especially when I lay down or sit up. Can anyone clarify?

Your large intestine takes a sharp curve in the lower left quadrant of your abdomoen and what you're describing could very well be diverticulitis. Diverticuli are small "pouches" that develop in the intestine and they might get something you ate in them and it gets infected and produces pain. Usually the culprit is nuts, popcorn, corn, or seeds. If you get a low grade fever (like 99F) you should see a doctor. If your abdomen is tender when you press it, it might very well be diverticulitis. You can try taking a laxative and drinking alot of water. Sometimes that will clean out the diverticuli. Also, take a couple aspirin with food. This will help the pain and the inflammation (Tylenol will not help inflammation) If you're still having pain in a couple of days, go to the doc. Godloveya.

It could be gallstones. That sounds like what I went through, you get pains that come and go, and then you get constant pain, and you will usually vomit and feel really sick. It took a few weeks in my case to go from little pains to full blown attacks.

It's not apendicitis. That's on your right side. It could be gas trapped in you small instestines. I had that a while ago and it reall hurt in my abdomen. Check to see if that's it.

Could possibly be a kidney stone, however, it could also be as benign as gas pains.
