Many emphasize the need to "just believe" and have faith.

However, isn't it difficult to not fall into old ways, or for fear, anxiety, and selfishness to play a large role in our lives, without religious/spiritual practice?

In other words, what works for you??

Good point Don. It's a good thing Jesus didn't feel he had to pray, fast, fellowship, etc.

In answer to the question, disobedience always pulls us away from God. Following Jesus (in action and heart) draws us closer to Him. If you want to be like Jesus (love, humility, character) you can't expect it to happen on cue. Jesus modeled a lifestyle that develops character. He wants us to follow Him. Not sure what you mean by "religious practice" but my advice is to do what Jesus did, which included the above AND being part of a community of faith.

You can only live what you truly believe. If you are selfish or fearful it is because your true beliefs are not what you claim to believe. Our belief system determines how we experience our life and how we act and react to any given situation.

True faith needs no support system. Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad, Lao Tzu, etc.. did not need to go practice, they had faith enough in their ideas that they lived what they knew to be Truth.

One can not exist without some level of "faith". We trust gravity to continually do its job, even taking it for granted. We trust in the weather enough to make certain plans despite the chance it can change at any instance.

Faith is "trust" and not unique to religion. You trust a friend or relative? You trust and hope in things, situations and or people ALL without proper sound reasoning.

If you need external help you haven't grown.

Faith is like a rope that starts with a string and then two and then three, etc.
Faith gets stronger as you grow.
You don't do the growing yourself.
You are grown.

My church seems to "charge my battery" every week. I find a renewed spirit after attending service. That keeps me going all week. I had trouble "keeping the faith" when I was stuck at home because of surgery. Fortunately, my church does online praise and worship services.

Belief-only is for the lazy people of this world that dont want to serve God. (Malachi 3:14)

I tell you the truth, nobody will see the Kingdom of Heaven unless they bear fruit. And you cant bear fruit if you dont follow God or wish to serve in his Son's Kingdom here on earth!

"Keep the Faith" has actually become a generic term meaning to continue believing in yourself, your "god" your work, your project, etc. It depends on your personal religion and beliefs and what your church, if you have one, sets as standards of belief.

I have faith in myself and it is getting stronger everyday. I don't need any religion or gods or whatever to guide me.
