Absinthe is a liquor containing an herbal extract known as thujone, which is hallucinogenic. It is illegal in all but Spain and Andorra, as far as I know. I've heard others talk about new countries legalizing it, but I don't know for sure. You can order it from out of the country and ship it in, legally, though, as long as you don't drink it. :)
Absinthe isn't really that strong. It's typically made with vodka, but the herbs in it give it its strange colorations. If you want better information, try going to www.erowid.org and exploring their website. That particular website is my main source for information simply because I've never been able to find anything to disprove their information. It is quite a vault of stories, details, pictures, and legal issues.
Also, there is nothing addictive about it, despite what some answerers may believe.

Absinthe, or The green fairy. It is a very strong liqueur and claims have been made that it has medicinal properties and qualities. It is 'legit' - real - but illegal in the US b/c of questions about the ingredients. See Wikipedia. If getting smashed is your goal, then just buy Bacardi 151 proof rum, or Ever Clear.

Absinthe (also absinth) (IPA English: [ˈæbsɪnθ] IPA French: [ap.sɛ̃t]) is a distilled, highly alcoholic, anise-flavored spirit derived from herbs including the flowers and leaves of the medicinal plant Artemisia absinthium, also called wormwood. Although it is sometimes incorrectly called a liqueur, absinthe does not contain added sugar and is therefore classified as a liquor or spirit.[1]

Absinthe is often referred to as la Fée Verte ("The Green Fairy") because of its coloring — typically pale or emerald green, but sometimes clear. Due to its high proof and concentration of oils, absintheurs (absinthe drinkers) typically add three to five parts ice-cold water to a dose of absinthe, which causes the drink to turn cloudy (called "louching"); often the water is used to dissolve added sugar to decrease bitterness. This preparation is considered an important part of the experience of drinking absinthe, so much so that it has become ritualized, complete with special slotted absinthe spoons and other accoutrements. Absinthe's flavor is similar to anise-flavored liqueurs, with a light bitterness and greater complexity imparted by multiple herbs.

Could it be Absinthe? That is around 150 proof from what I've seen. It is illegal in the U.S. and probably Mexico. Just type it in on yahoo, google, or e-bay all three have info on it.

cant get absinthe in america its made with essence of wormwood so its a controlled substance. and everclear has a higher proof at 180. and if he didnt gag horribly on the straight absinthe then he is lying. it tastes horrible and needs to be prepared with sugar to make it palatable.

I think it's spelled Absinthe or Absynthe - it's illegal in the US. It not only is very strong alcohol, but it contains a hallucinogen. I've seen people get seriously messed up on this stuff, and would recommend you stay way far away!

Absinthe.. go google it.

It's not what it used to be. Strong alcohol isn't the best.

You're discovery drinking, must be very young, either underaged or just turned legal.

Don't drink the hard stuff. It will ruin your heart muscles.
