Depends on what airline you are flying. Quantas, for example, allows cell phone use on their flights so therefor WIFI would not be a problem.

In the U.S. however, they are currently debating to allow the use of Wi-Fi in flight and UnitedAirlines is partnering with verizon airphone to test it out. it may not be too long before it becomes legal everywhere.

Wireless devices are not allowed to be used on airlines, as they can interfere with the navigational equipment!
