it is a form of herpes and is contagious. You could have been born with the virus, or contracted it at a young age through kissing a family member who has the virus. Unfortunately you will always have the virus in your system, but the cold sores will go away. Time is the best remedy, either that, or have your parents take you to the doctors, there is medication out there through prescription that will help them go away quicker. Good luck.

A cold sore can also be hereditary. For instance, if your mother had Herpes, there is a very large and good chance you'll get the herpes virus too. Herpes is wrongly associated with having sex; evidently people who claim that are wrongly educated.
The best wasy to get rid of a herpes cold sore is to go to your doctor and ask for the medication Denivir. This shortens your coldsore length to 4 days. The stuff you can get at the drug store dont really help. I'm sure you've heard of Abreva, however all Abreva does it sooth the imflammed area; much like ice soothes a burn.
Keep in mind that you can never "cure" Herpes, you can only shorten its apperance, you have a virus and virus's dont have cures.
Good Luck!

Cold sores are contracted through kissing someone or sharing items you put in or on the mouth by someone who had a cold sore. It is Herpes Simplex 1. It is possible to contract a cold sore from kissing someone who does not have a cold sore on their lip, because the virus periodically sheds on the skin surface even if a cold sore is not present.
You should not kiss anyone or any surface of their body if you have a cold sore present on your mouth because it is more likely that you will spread the herpes virus.
Never share lipstick or lip gloss with other people.

I'm twelve too. I've never had a cold sore though. I would just get some sort of cold sore medicine at the store and see what that does. If it doesn't go away after that, then ask a doctor or someone who knows what to do.

You get cold sores from the herpes simplex virus. It doesn't have to be passed as an STD, but can also be transmitted by kissing, touching lips after doorknob...too many ways to list here.
Abreva is sold as a treatment. It doesn't get rid of the virus, just gets rid of the cold sore.

I get those sometimes too, but they're nothing to worry about. They either go away on there own, or you could try and put some ointment on it. My mom gave me a good remedy for those, you cut a lemon in half, put a pinch of salt on the lemon, and put the lemon juice on the sore. It does help, the sore goes away in about a day. But it does burn a bit, but it's worth it to take the sore away. Another thing you could try is baking soda. Apply a small amount on the sore, and it takes away in about a day also. It also burns a bit though. Hope this helps!

A cold sore is part of the herpes virus family. No worries though, millions of people get them. Doesn't mean you have an STD.
Have your parents go to the drug store and they can find some meds there for it.

As far as I know, and I'm not an expert, you can catch coldsores from towels, cups, cutlery, kissing or touching other people with coldsores. You can't get rid of it, just wait for it to go away and use some concealer if you want to. But make sure you don't infect the concealer as they are very contagious. Make sure you don't share drinks and towels with other people whilst you have the coldsore or they might get one. You may get another one at some point if you are stressed. My sister got a coldsore once and then got another one a year or so later but she hardly ever gets them so don't worry too much.
