The answer to that question will probably be different depending upon where you are. Where I live it would be very unusual to be held back in a grade for more than one year, and in fact it would be unusual to be held back for more than one year in total between first grade and sixth grade. Some areas and schools and school districts have rules and guidelines about that and some don't.

To get the correct answer for your area you need to ask someone at your school district office or possibly the principal.

There are two answers to this question 1 How many times should you be held back, and how many times can you be held back. Should till you know high level of material. The general rule use to be no more than two times. Your parents need to agree to hold you back in some states.

Wow, that is a difficult question, heh.

I'd say that you'd be held back until you hit passing status or near passing status (if you had been held back WAY too long).

If the reason that you were held back was because of a learning difficulty, or a mental illness, you'd be sent to special education or gotten a tutor, etc.
