Don't use them to lose weight. Use protein to gain muscle. Muscle has to burn calories, just to survive. If you gain muscle, it will burn calories all day, if you exercise, it will burn more.
Fat will slow you down and make you want to stop exercising and hibernate. Fight the urge. Get up and out and exercise.
A lean protein can be made with protein powder and whatever else you like or need. I have some soy protein powder I mix with fruit juice or whole fruit, it tastes great. I also have some chocolate protien powder I mix with milk and usually a tbsp of whole peanut butter (health food stores). It tastes like a Snickers bar, and it great before a workout.
Warning - if you drink these just because they taste good, thinking they'll make you lose weight, you're wrong, you have to change your diet and exercise or you'll just get fatter. Do you know much weight America has gained drinking Slim-Fast?

If you are not a vegetarian, you can get a whey protein shake.
(If you ARE a veg. you can get a soy isolate shake.)
*I've never heard anything about the body not digesting soy isolate. That might be something to look into, though.
It is just an option for veg's as whey protein is derived from eggs.
Either come in a variety of flavours and can be mixed with milk, water, ice, yogurt, peanut butter or bananas, depending on your mood.
A healthful suggestion would be to add a banana, organic skim milk and some almond butter (I go organic with that too. It tastes better than peanut butter, believe it or not and it's less fattening.) to the mix, along with a sprinkle of flaxseed.
If you really want to be brave, you can add liquid egg whites and drink it down. (Eggology or Egg Whites International) This is the highest form of protein you can get and it is tastless in a shake.
Also, it has been pasteurized and lab tested against salmonella and listeria, so it is perfectly safe.
Oh and by the way, if you are working out - the best time to drink a protein shake is within 20 minutes of working out.
If you are not working out, have one in the morning as your breakfast.

There are many protein powders to choose from in the grocery store. I use: ice, Light 85 yogurt, fruit and the powder in a blender.
Trader Joes has some shakes that are 100 cals & 20 grams.
You need ~50 grams / day. Watch these so called protein diet drinks, many are hi-fat/cal; try to keep under 150 cal.

I lost 25 lbs. Shakes were part. Best fruit to use is blueberries, rasberries, peaches cuz they have less sugar. Avoid strawberries, bananas, etc...). Use non fat yogurt, nonfat milk and some protein power. Great meal replacement. But you need to watch calories (aka dont pig out) and exercise. I ran 2 miles 3 days a week ....plus avoided all sweets and beer for 6 months. Lost 25 lbs to hit my target weight. Eat regular meals that include meat and veggies. Limit carbs, but dont be nuts about it. Pass on bread most of the time.
For the next year keeping the weight off was hard. Now it is easier (my body hit a new "set point" after one year)

What ever you do, stay away from soy protein isolate! Your body can't digest it, and that can lead to some issues. My only caution on whey protein is that there are many different grades. The common ones in the stores are low grade. Get yourself a quality whey protein isolate (bio-available). This will do the most for your body. You will most likely have to purchase it on the web. If you need a souirce, contact me.

I buy protein mix and shake flavors from a rep at Herbal Life. I use two scoops of the shake mix and one -two scoops of the protein mix along with 8 oz of skim milk and blend in my blender. I make them for breakfast and dinner and have lunch (meal). U also use this in tandem with the Shape Works herbal supplements. I have lost 30 lbs since last December. I didn't gain weight from this - I lost and gained muscle. Good Luck - hope this helps!

Well, you can go to GNC or any health store and buy the mix. Mine has 27 grams of protein in one serving. And then all you do is mix it with water or milk. If you are trying to lose weight, then I suggest that you mix it with water to avoid the extra calories. I got mine at Costco and I love it because I just mix one scoop with 5 ounces of water, (which isn't a lot) and drink it! And there is more than half of my recommended daily intake of protein. And it's great because I'm a vegetarian.

You can't. It's best to just buy a tub of high quality formulated whey protein powder. It should only be taken an hour before a workout with a small meal and then within a half-hour after your workout because your body is craving instant protein&sugars to replenish itself. Be careful how much, though. I only use a half-a-scoop with 8-10oz. of lowfat milk before and after the workout, not full amount recommended on the tub. On days that you don't workout, stay away from it altogether. The one I like the best is "MuscleMilk", which costs less than $30. for a huge tub at the WildOats store.

As of last February, I was at 491 lbs.. As of this past August, I'm down to 330lbs.. I don't do it to be accepted socially, I do it to be healthy. Did you know you can die suddenly from being morbidly obese? I didn't. I eat a small breakfast of one boiled egg,one slice of wheat toast with a teaspoon of low calorie peanut butter and a glass of 2% milk. Or if I'm in a hurry, I'll make a protein shake with one scoop of powder,a small glass of 2% milk, and a banana in a blender.
It fill you up and keeps you going till your next meal. One thing, DON'T try to lose weight quickly. It took you some time to gain it,it will take time to lose it. Good luck.

well I like Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein the best. Chocolate's my fave.
BUT...it's just that, 100% protein, that means it's for people who are eating a complete diet and just want to add protein.
IF YOU'RE TRYING TO LOSE WHEIGHT, you should look at meal replacement powders like Slim Fast etc. yeah, those are basically protein powders too, but they have other things in them like vitamins and minerals that you need to get since your replaceing a meal with it, and not just using it as a supplement. you should also be taking a multi-vitamin if you're not already.
