You know this is really just one of those sh*t happens situations. Console him over what? How devestated can he possibly be? Its not like they were married and have 3 kids. He got turned down for a date, if he's devestated over that he needs professional help (and to grow up). Exactly how was he 'desperatley in love' with someone he just saw, you have to KNOW someone to love them and if it only goes one way its something else, obsession, infatuation..whatever but its not love. Personally I wouldn't baby him too much, he needs to realize this will happen more than once and he needs to not feel sorry for himself, its really kind of ridiculous...the other thing he needs to do is not get so carried away with his IDEAS about what he wants something to be that he gets hurt when they don't match reality and thats exactly what happened here, he had all these great fantasies in his head but thats all they ever were. There are too many fish in the sea to worry about it all that much.

Be a friend to him right now(but don't tell him what you know). In time, he will see the truth and end the relationship. He'll appreciate you for being there for him!

there is no cure for something like that all that u can do is help him get on with life and DO NOT PUSH HIM cos that can lead to him feeling worse talk to him and take him out with mates cos that is what he needs his friends round him being daft and makeing him laugh
