They feel it shouldn't happen to them, and that they've done nothing to deserve it.

Because church tells people that if they give themselves to Jesus, Jesus will protect them. Church says that Jesus watches over them in everything they do and that prayers work. When something bad happens, people are shocked to find that Jesus and their prayer failed. This goes against everything they have ever been taught about gods love!
The truth is that sh*t happens to everyone, equally to believers and non-believers because there is no god, and the nature of the world is random. When people have been lied to by the church, they do have a "Why me, when I was a humble servant of the lord?" moment, because they are trying to wrap their minds around the often unfair natural world. Every Sunday they were told that Jesus had their back and that the world is ordered and just because of god, so when god was absent in their time of need, the "why me" is the first step to-"Oh yeah, god is not real so I need to take care of myself."

Which is why I believe that God gives us life and then leaves us to it. I find it very hard to believe that the people in Louisiana prayed any less than the people in Florida or Biloxi. It is ridiculous to blame circumstance on anyone. Not even yourself in some cases.
One person isn't any more special or favored than another.
Government was to blame for Louisiana if anyone... But then again, why live in a city that is hurricane prone if it is down below sea level in a bowl with broken levees? God gave us wisdom... we so seldom use it. Blame is the easy way out and to assume as you say "It can't happen to you." or "It should happen to someone else over you." Is just stupid.

You're right!....people that don't know the Word Of GOD and Not "Trained In The WORD Of GOD usally say that!......"Be Not Deceived, GOD Is Not Mocked, For Whatsoever A Man Soweth, That Shalll He Also Reap"! (Galatians 5: 7).........ps. people bring bad things upon themselves, and 'blame GOD for it"!..........everyone must choose their own destiny and take accountability for what they choose!.....simple as that!....

Human nature. It's easier to blame someone or something else. I believe everything happens for a reason. Good or bad!

Are you some kinda wacko or somethin' Yeah, your right, Jesus never promised an easy life, look at the rich young ruler, Jesus told him "go and sell all that you have and give it to the poor" he didn't do it, he rode away unwilling to give up what was his,

When his life was ruined, his family killed, his farm destroyed, Job knelt down on the ground and yelled up to the heavens, "Why god? Why me?" and the thundering voice of God answered, "There's just something about you that pisses me off."
