Start out with just a couple of blocks, increase by a couple of blocks a day. Sit ups are better, but start slow or you will give up because of muscles hurting. Do maybe 5 sit ups the first day, 6 the second and so one. or until the one that hurts. Stop there. After 4 weeks you will see a major difference. Swimming is so good for the tummy. I am 47 and had a terrible tummy from a 10lb child and an 9lb child, years ago. Ha! and no excerise for years, but these things have given me a chance of actully waring a bikini again. Yippy!

You can't spot fat reduce. If you do cardiovascular activities at a rate where you burn more calories than you consume, you will burn fat, but all over and not just from your stomach. You're 40, you're still young!! Why limit yourself to walking? What about running, cycling, rowing, aerobics, step aerobics, ... boxing! Boxing is a great fun way to fat burn and it tones your arms at the same time (no more bingo wings!). You'd have to do an awful lot of walking to really burn calories. Unless you power-walk, in which case you might as well jog. In order to burn any fat you need to work at around 70-80% of your maximum heart rate!! Would walking do that for you? Why now join a gym? Get a friend to come with you its more fun. Exercising will give you an appetite. Watch you don't end up eating more.

Walking is one good way to lose the weight but you should also try doing sit ups, around 20 a night before going to bed. If you prefer to walk then walk around your neighborhood or walk for about an hour everyday. Bring a walkman to chase away the boredom!
