the mom still nurses, I was eating a turkey sandwich and dropped some on the floor and they were going nuts, they loved it. Just didnt know if canned food would constipate them or not. Or they too young yet?

You did not post your breed of dog.
Different breed puppies develop at different stages.
I raise Chihuahua's, I usually start my babies on dry food soaked with water and free choice dry food (no water) at about 4 weeks.
Small breed dogs cut their teeth a bit latter than large breed dogs.
I have a friend that raises Rocks and her puppies are eating dry food at 3 weeks. They are also walking all over the whelping box.
My little munchkins do good to slide/scoot across their bed at 3 weeks of age.
I have never had a problem with soft can food causing constipation, actually I have right the opposite problem. It tends to cause diarrhea.
I have found when I soak the dog food with water, I can also add a small amount of can food with out any problems.
When they first start to eat just be prepared for them to get more food on themselves than in their mouths.

They should not need any puppy food until 6 - 8 weeks. When you do follow the instructions carefully, use the best quality food you can get to start with (something like science plan). They should stay on this then until 6 months old depending on what breed they are. If they are big dogs a lot of breeders would recommend that you changed them at 5 months on to a food that had only about 20 - 25% protein or they can grow too fast and sometimes damage their bones. Vets would mostly disagree with this but they do sell science plan!! A big dog will still be growing until it is 18mnt - 2 years old so it needs to do it slowly (like a child). Whatever food you go with try to encourage the buyers of your puppies not to change the food when they first take them (maybe you could give a small amount with the puppy) as this will upset the puppies tummy.

I would never feed any dog canned food. Are you talking about weaning puppies? If so, you can feed them a good quality dry puppy food moistened with warm water at about 4 weeks. They still need to nurse, but supplementing them twice a day at this age is great.
