my parents took the cat to the vet today and had it neutered - after 3 hours the vet called to say it could be brought home - when we brought it home, the poor cat looked so miserable i cried.. its painful to see my baby that way =( any tips on how to take care of my baby within these few days after operation? how can i help him feel less pain? The doctor didn't give any edible medicine - he only gave the type to apply on the area (to kill germs) - is there any medicine i can buy so that it can relieve its pain? should i leave it alone in a quiet room to sleep or should i stay by its side? and is it ok if i pet it? i don't want to annoy him too much now that he's in pain... suggestions and tips are GREATLY appreciated. i need it ASAP cuz i don't want my baby to suffer more than it already has =(

I had a male cat that was neutered and when I brought him home he was swaying all over the place from the anaesthetic. Poor baby. I made sure I could see him at all times, gave him a comfortable place to sleep (if he wanted), and gave him some peace and quite. He needs to know you're there, so he doesn't feel scared, but also he probably won't want too much petting, maybe every hour or so go over and give him a stroke, so he knows your there, but you probably only need to do this a few times. I would avoid touching the area other than putting on the medication. Make sure he has fresh water (change it more often than usual). I wouldn't let him out for at least 2 or 3 days. Most of all don't worry, he will look much better within a day, and totally recovered within a week. You won't know what you were worrying about next week I promise.

Neutering is not an invasive surgery for the male cat. They do not go into the body cavity so recovery is usually just a matter of coming out of the anesthesia.

I feel every household with animals should have a bottle of Rescue Remedy around. You can get that for about $20 at a health foods store. Just essential IMO for any emergency. It will cover any pain or stress the young man had from his surgery. It is totally benign and will not interfere with any medication given by the vet. You simply shake the bottle well and apply three to four drops to your cat's fur. Probably doing it three or four times for two days would be enough.

It will really help him feel much better and make you feel better too as it is something you can do without any danger to him.

There is nothing you can give him at home. He probably still has the affects of the anesthesia. I would say let him rest. Remember as well he has not eaten for awhile too.
I am a Veterinary technician going on 14 years. Your vet probably told you to feed him later this evening. The best thing to do is just comfort him(petting, talking to him) and letting him rest. Good Luck and don't forget to hug your pet today!

Usually the vet tells you to leave them alone in a quiet room to rest and sleep. Cats are usually aggressive after being neutered thus being under anesthetic.

I hope this will help you and I hope your kitty will feel better soon.

After the operation keep your cat warm and in a quiet undisturbed place. offer a light meal like white fish or chicken and fresh water. provide a litter tray near by. keep your cat indoors for the first few days until the wound is healed, ask your vet for further information.

Our cat was neutered and had a hysterectomy at the same time.
Apart from a cone on her head to stop her pulling of the plasters and antibiotics pills crunched up in her food all she needed was sleep. Cats almost go into hibernation when hurt, it's their way of staying still and getting through the painful bit. I don't thgink you need to worry too much, just leave her be and make sure she gets the antibiotics down her. I a few days she'll start taking an interest in what's going on around her.

Both my cats wanted to get back to life as normal right after they came home. My oldest cat came home right after he woke up from anesthesia, so he was pretty wobbly - but he really was fine and just wanted to go about his business without much interference from me. The younger one, the vet kept overnight to make sure he came out of anesthesia ok, and so when I brought him home, he was pretty much ready to rip and tear like always.

Your kitty will be fine pretty quickly. Just let him do what he normally does, unless you see any complications or anything unusual.

Make sure the little cutie has a nice, comfy place to sleep. You can pet him, just gently, like a nice pat on the head. Give him a treat, and make sure he has plenty of food and water close to him.

i think of a week would be wonderful. merely shop an eye fixed on him. i comprehend it sounds nuts yet watch him while he gos to his muddle container and notice if he licks afterwords this in many cases ability Mabey something incorrect. Sence he has a vet visit quickly he would be wonderful. good success!
