Bieng able to get out of season food is very good for your health. People today are far stronger, taller, healthier and live longer than ever before in history. That is due in large part because we are able to obtain fresh fruits and vegetable syear round. Before the advent of cold storage and canning technology people suffered from seasonal vitamin deficiency. As recently as the 19th century most people in Europe experienced the early symptoms of scurvy every winter, simply because there were no fruits or vegetables available.

Being able to get food s out of season is essential for the helath of humans today.

while leviter is perfectly right, one must add that it is a good idea to adjust your diet to different seasons - like lighter diet in the summer heat, richer meals in the wintertime. easy-to digest things during season that gives you stress - like really hot spell. i believe that macrobiotics teaches us that it is better to stick with native fruits and grains rather than out-of season products, but a lot of people find some of that teachings way too extreme.... and we shouldnt forget that these greenhouse-grown products are sometimes not that savoury and nutritious than field-grown (at least i am always dissapointed at those strawberries - they are just tasteless i dont know why). what i think is that what is bad is that our foods are meant to have long shelf live and it is done by harmful substances in some cases and in some cases it looses some of the nutrients, e.g. over time in the freezer. in the ancient times you cooked your food and ate it, you couldnt buy a cake or oven-ready dish with several weeks shelf life. Well i think that our diet is rather unhealthy in other ways than that we eat off-season vegetable.
