If you don't mind smalla nd a shared bathroom- Go to the americana hotel. Very clean and 4 blocks to Macy's and empire state building.
I paid $65 a night- You get a VERY small room with a twin bed and a sink. The ceilings are High so its not so bad. You also have a dresser and a closet. But hey, you in the heart of Manhattan....So worth it!!!!

If you have questions you can email me

All Hotels are expensive in New york .
I would suggest two things:
1. Look in Craigs's list : www.newyork.craigslist.org and look for sublets.
2. Try Priceline , I had a friend who managed to a get a hotel with Priceline for $75.00 . With this site you name the price that you want to pay for your room, and with a bit luck you can pay at the price you want

In the Ghetto I guess. There is no cheap place to stay in NY.
Don't you have a friend or family member there? Good Luck.
