My friend and I are going there in December/January and I've got a British passport, so I'm fine, but my friend's not sure. Help please?

Australian citizens with a valid Austrailian passport do not require a visa to enter France for a period of less than three months for the purpose of tourism.

France accepts tourists from most countries without the need of a visa (all developped countries, at least)

so it should be ok, as long as you have a return ticket and you're not staying more than a few months (I always forget if the limit is 3 or 6 months)

But you should check with your ambassy before going...

By the way: UK is NOT in the schengen group, so you'll be in EXACTLY the same position as your friend. You'll need to bring your passport with you.

They are not going to need a visa for any of the Central European countries. Eastern Europe I don't know but France certainly not just to visit.
