You can make a wall-hanging in several different ways.

1) You could find a coordinate fabric to use as a backing and sew it into a square or rectangular shape using more fabric or trim to border it with. You can even put batting (like they use in quilts inbetween to give some thickness to the piece). You could also take your fabric and add lots of other fabrics and create a quilt. If you make a pocket on the back you can run a pole through the back of the fabric and hang it on an ordinary curtain rod. A pocket at the bottom is good too to add a weight rod to allow the fabric to drape well.

2) I saw this the other day at a fabric shop. They took a strip of fabric and covered a 1/2" board, that was approx. 27" x 40". Then they took some cording and used it as a cord to hang the board from. It was really cool looking and sort of contemporary.

3) You could also take the idea above to one step further, and actually take your fabric and frame it just as you would a piece of art. Frame, Mats and Glass included. Glass will help keep your heirloom from getting dusty. I did this with a piece of scenic tapestry years ago, and I have loved having it around.

I hope these help.
