I'm 6 months pregnant, and my male cat has been acting strange for about 3 months. He's always done the normal thing's that cats do, out part of the day and spending some time at home sitting with us, but since the start of the summer he's staying out as much as possible coming in to eat for 5mins, doesn't want to be stroked and then leaves as soon as possible. Sometimes he'll even walk out of the kitchen if I disturb him! This is very strange behaviour after 8 happy years together and he isn't getting less attention from me! Is it because I'm pregnant?? If so what can I do?? Please help someone!

My male cat, also neutered, had the same reaction when I started planning to get a smaller female cat to join the family. They are jealous and react to different behaviors and moods. The solution to that problem was, one member of the family gave him extra attention even when he didn't want to, while another member of the family always gave him food near people's company, example make sure while he is eating someone is around talking to him. This way he feels attention and soon changes his mood. After a week he started acting normal again.

Well this is strange. I think possibly the Summer weather would have meant that he would be out the house more anyway my cat is like that. They do reckon cats are very sensitive so maybe he is just a bit worried that all of a sudden you have a large tummy! I think he will be better perhaps after the baby is born. Good luck with him I love cats they are great!

He may sense that something is going on in the household, but usually jealousy doesn't start until after the baby is here.

I think he might have a second family that he has attached himself to. So basically he is double dipping in the food and attention category, so he doen't need as much from you.

Have you thought of making him an indoor cat? He would live a much safer, happier, and healthier life indoors.

Cats love to wander, but being an outdoor cat is a dangerously short existance. I've had a number of cats, and since I've started keeping them indoors they tend to last a lot longer and my vet bills have been reduced drastically. Try to keep him indoors, though that may be difficult as he is now accustomed to going out whenever he pleases.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, I hope you have a happy & healthy baby.

I've never heard of anything like that before. Maybe your cat has a girlfriend somewhere and doesn't really care if he's neutered or what. Maybe its a phase that coincided with your pregnancy unless of course if this is the first. Most cats (I have 3) like being cuddled even during my pregnancies (3x) and neutered or not - they like occupying the crib first before the baby comes and mine watched all three babies grow up even slept with one baby once.

your kitty probably sense that something in your household is changing (with being pregant) and he may be feeling a little jealous. If I was you, I would try to spend a little more time with him. I really dont know what else you can do, but good luck..
