Conpassion and forgiveness are taught in a number of religions. Is it “good” or “bad”.
And if it is good, as I believe, why is it not popular in our world.

A human being is part of a whole, called by us the `Universe,' a part limited in time and space.
He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Both are good qualities to strive towards.

Compassion is a bit easier for women than for men. Women are somehow "wired" to feel others pain moreso than men.

Forgiveness is more difficult. It involves forgiving someone who does not want to be forgiven or doesn't think they have done anything to be forgiven for.

With compassion, the other person involved is receiving something from you that they can feel and understand, and you are giving the compassion more so for them than yourself.

Forgiveness you are doing more for yourself than for the person or persons who have harmed you. Without the ability to forgive, we cannot go forward with our lives, regardless of what the offending party did or did not do.

As for not being popular, compassion is seen as a weakness by many men and some "career oriented" women. It is not "good" in the eyes of the world to show that you are personally affected by anothers pain and worry.

Forgiveness is also not a worldly taught thing. People of the world are taught justice and revenge, either through themselves or our court system. If forgiveness was taught instead, we would have a much lighter caseload for the court system and therefore much less work for lawyers and prosecuters and such.

Compassion is a good thing. In this day and age however, it is often hard to determine who needs compassion and who is just looking for a free handout. Also, there comes a point when compassion starts hurting the people it is intended to help. People have to learn to become independent. We have to be careful our compassion doesn't turn into someones crutch.

Shared suffering, although i wouldn't go up to somebody who was a victim of abuse and emphatically state, 'i know how you must feel'- because you can't unless you've experienced it.

Yes i think it's a desirable quality to posses, as long as it's used in the right way and that we accept that different eyes view the same things in different ways.

It's not overly popular in our world because many people don't understand the difference between compassion and pity . (and possibly more),
Overall it depends on how/we you view compassion.

IT IS VERY GOOD TO HAVE compassion for others it is a Christ like quality. and yes we should desire it with all our hearts.Because people of this world do not want to be as our savior was, they hated him and they will hate us also so that is why it is not popular in this (WORLD).

Compassion is caring for others. It is not popular because people in this day and age are largely selfish creatures.

All the teachings are for acedemic purposes. Practical life is quite different and people react to prevailing circumstances in their own way.
