My wife and I independently bought milk. We have more than enough before its expiration date. Can we freeze the extra gallon until we need it?

Yes

While pasteurized milk can be frozen; it may separate or be slightly grainy when thawed. Frozen milk works best for cooking, but you may find it's still okay for drinking.

Freeze milk in plastic freezer containers or special freezer-proof glass jars. Leave some extra space at the top since milk expands during freezing. If packaged in a wide-mouth container, leave 1/2-inch head space for pints and 1-inch for quarts. If packaged in a narrow-mouth container (such as jars), leave 1 1/2-inch head space for either pints or quarts.

Plan to use frozen milk within a month. Thaw milk in the refrigerator. Stir well before using.

Yes, it can be frozen but - - the proteins in milk will seperate when thawed and the milk will have 'flecks' in it. No harm. Just use it for desserts or cooking. Leave a little 'headroom' in the container 'cause milk expands when frozen. Oh, your coffee will look kinda funny with white flecks too!

Yes, you can freeze milk. If it is in a glass container, be certain you leave room for expansion otherwise the glass will break.

you can freeze milk but when it freezes it curdles so when you take it out it has to stand and re-assemble. Generally a better idea to buy long life milk.
