It seems to me that 99% of the time that people tell me that their god(s) have spoken to them, the god(s) have always just told the person what they wanted to hear in the first place.

I know that I'm cynical. I'm agnostic. It comes with the territory.

But have others noticed this pattern?

An honest answer TJMiller, and I sincerely appreciate that you took the time to answer this, even though you & I don't see eye-to-eye on many things.

Well, this is opposite perhaps to what you are asking but when I was 15 and attending Baptist church God's chosen representative told me my pattern of sin was set and my lifetime had no choices. I left that day and never went back. So in a way yes I was told something I didn't want to hear.

I think that the reason that most Christians never hear God's voice is because they only admit to hearing the things that they want to hear, and eventually they quit hearing the things that they don't want to hear. God very often wants to tell us things we don't want to hear. "Stop sinning" is often one of them. God sends people places that they don't want to go, gives them jobs that they don't want to do, etc etc. Many times we realize later that the thing God told us to do is exactly what we needed to do and even wanted to do, but it doesn't usually sound fun at the time. I hope this makes some kind of sense...

I don't think God actually speaks to me. I get jealous sometimes and wonder why He talks to others and not to me - maybe I'm just not listening well enough. He doesn't always answer my prayers the way I would like Him to though. Fortunately, it has always worked out for the best, even when He said, "NO" to something I really wanted.

Not in my case. I've heard the voice of god MANY times. Sometimes I listened, sometimes I didn't. And I always paid for not listening. But I never blamed Him.

The trick is to know whether it is Allah(SWT) , th eangels, Jinn, or more often than not, your own mind. This calls for extreme discipline. Fotunantely, this is built into Al-Islam...

Yes all the time. Every time I realize I need to change something about myself to get the consequences I desire instead of the ones I am receiving. Changing my behavior is difficult and stressful but I know if I want different outcomes I need to perform different actions.

Yes, He has in many occasions. God does not tell me so face to face or any in a dream, but He has done so through the Bible. However, my belief in God is that whatever He asks of me, I will try my best to meet His expectations. God knows me better than I know myself, He knows my past, present and future and best of all my mind/heart. God does requires a lot from me, but He gives me the option to do it or not doing it. It is my decisions to accept or reject God's requests, but I chose to believe in Him and try my best to do what He asks of me, even the ones that sometimes I find very hard to do.

Yes.
When I don't want to do the right thing (apologize, etc..) He tells me I need to do it. I don't want to hear that. I'd rather Him say, "no it's ok, you don't need to apologize"
But I know whatever He tells me, it's all for the better, He will not let His sheep be led astray.
