Someone very close to me was deported from the US for a felony. He grew up in America - lived there for 16 years, worked for at least 5 years, even married an American woman. Would Canada or any European country let him in to live/work with his background and if so, how long does he have to wait before attempting to enter another country?

No European country and Canada will ever accept him. They do not grant visa's to felons no matter how long ago it was.

The felony is a great restriction worldwide.
The seriousness of the crime will restrict him, as it should.

What's wrong with his own country? hmmmm, no free rides here and I'm glad our laws worked in this one instance, so many times our laws fail our citizens who try hard ...just to be Americans.
