we just moved to a new neighborhood and my dog barks at everything and anything... Are there anything that I can do to stop him from barking? I dont want the electric shocker ... personally... I think it is inhumane.

When the dog barks hold his muzzle shut firmly and say no bark repeat over and over till your dog learns this command. We want our dogs to bark when there is a stranger on our property but when the command to no bark is given that should be the end of the barking

I had The same trouble when I got my dog.He was 4 month old and I live in a place for old folks, verry nice people here.I was in the yard planting flowers and he didnt know anyone so he barked a lot.I got turned in to the manager 3 times that day,we werent out there verry long.I never did find out who called him.Anyway he is 7 years old now and just barks when he should. I trained him good.I patted him and had the person pet him so he knows most of them.He still doesnt like the male dogs here so we stay away from them.Signed,Free Little Lillie

The shock collar is not inhumane. I used it on my dog and he only barks at people he doesn't know. All you do is set it on a lower level like 1 or 2 (out of seven), and when your dog barks just give him a quick jolt or buy a collar with a built in tone. My dog's too big for his collar now, so I just swat him on the nose or tell him to shut up. He usually listens.

It sounds like he's a bit insecure about the move-is this new behavior?

Put him on a lead, take him for a walk, and quietly correct him each time he starts barking. Reward him when he's quiet.

Do you leave him out alone all day? Dogs will bark out of boredom and isolation. An indoor crate is probably a better option, and will keep your neighbors from becoming annoyed.

if you're not wanting to use the bark collar ... there are collars out there that use a very high pitch noise only the dog can hear. there's also a collar that sprays citronella anytime the dog barks. I've heard of a simple use of an empty tin can with pennies in it. anytime the dog needs to be corrected the can is shaken. it's meant to startle the dog as well as take its attention off the bad behavior. discipline and training also works. if you haven't taken your dog to a puppy school. or do it yourself! it's easy.

if you have money, as a last resort you could de-bark him. just ask your vet.

good luck!

Get him a friend. My Jack Russell used to bark all day long when I was at work. I didn't realize it until my annoyed neighbor told me about it. I tried medicine, didn't do the bark collar (he's too stubborn). So, I eventually went to a rescue group and got him another dog to play with. It totally solved the problem. He was bored and lonely.

it'll take a while for your dog to get used to the new environment. his barking should be lessened as time goes by. i suggest that you keep him inside your house. if the dog won't be able to see things outside, the lesser the bark. it would also be good to have your pet a walk around the neighborhood. you may see your pet doing a lot of smelling along the way, dog's own way of knowing and getting familiar with.

i bought a collar only had to use it a short time but used words different from everyday words..now when she hears it she thinks that she is not supose to bark...the collars are only a traing aid you still have to work with them..i agree if you just put collar on and when they bark they get shocked is not the way they work...good luck but the collar was my last resort and it worked..
