I hate when people say the U.S. flag is a living thing, and want to show people where it talks about this in the Bible.

Do you remember elementary school? How about 6th grade when you learned the types of 'voice' in a written story? Do you remember the word 'allegory?' That means that, in order to make a point, inanimate objects and other things are given a human 'voice' to drive home an idea or concept. When someone talks about the US flag (or any other country's flag) as living, what they are symbolizing is the entire nation that the flag represents. The same is true in the Bible. If you study the Bible as literature, you learn quickly that just about any type of literary writing 'device' is used. Even Christ Jesus used parables and stories - and not all of them are recorded for us. But, given the nature, power, and character of God, is it such a stretch to say that He could not (in the twinkle of an eye) create something living from what was not? (Look at the Creation account - how Adam was created).

I assume you're talking about the Word of God - the living book. It is a book that was written by the guidance of the Spirit. The Spirit fills our hearts and allows us to understand it's meaning. My book doesn't have a heartbeat or doesn't need energy to survive, but it does give me life and hope. It's words are alive with the wisdom of the Lord.

I think that you are referring to idolatry. This sin is throughout the Bible from Genesis through Revelation. You can download a good Bible concordance from the Internet for free. It will help you greatly to answer questions like this.

Idolatry - the worship of inanimate objects as if they are a god.
