I use Nikon myself. For what it's worth, my main lens is their 17-55mm f/2.8, which I use at f/2.8 quite a lot. Then again, I find that even the limited 17-55mm zoom range covers about 80% of my needs.

My personal preference would be to use the 24-105 as my favorite lense. I do a lot of outdoor photography and prefer not to change lenses for each shot. I have used the Nikon 28-80 and the 35-70 and found the range is too limiting for my needs. I think that if you do a lot of in-studio work, the 24-70 is the lense of choice for that specific need.
