You can pick up the same type of tick as your dog (not all animal ticks will attach to humans - we don;t taste nce) but the risks are minimal.
Get your dog a flea collar or use the flea chemicals (the stuff you drop onto the scruff of the neck) to minimise the risk of you dog becoming infected.
A tick on a dog will not 'jump' at you or anything, so if you're frequently checking for ticks, that's half the battle. THe most likely place you would get a tick, would be the same place as your dog ..... up on moors, common land, fern & bracken or fields with Cattle etc. To reduce the risk (and worry) simply try to restrict the movement of the dog to low risk areas - play fields/area not used by farm animals etc.
But don;t worry, there are things a tick can transfer but the likelyhood is minimal and not life threatening.

You will not get a tick from your dog. Both people and dogs get ticks when walking through long vegetation e.g. moorland. To avoid this dont walk the dog unless wearing trousers and check your legs afterwards if walking in long grass.
Lyme disease is very rare - dont worry about it. If you were unlucky enough to get bitten it shouldnt make you or your baby ill - but if it happens talk to your doctor to be sure.
You are more likely to get a local reaction at the site where a tick bites. This can get swollen and red - particularly if you try to pull a tick off your skin. Ticks sink their mouthparts into the skin and cling on. If you pull the tick off, bits will be left behind in the skin causing the reaction. So it is better to kill it first. If my dogs get a tick I simply wait for it to fall off naturally.

Ticks can live on humans and dogs. You can get seriously ill from ticks with lyme disease. Jut make sure you treat your dog for ticks and check your dog often as well as yourself or anyone else in the household. You dont get bit from a tick they latch on to you and suck blood which makes them get huge. Do research on ticks perhaps. Alsojust becasue you foundt he ticks on dog and you say they were dead doesnt mean there are no ticks you cannot see. Good Luck!

Yes they can. I don't think it is that common for ticks to exist on humans, but I have certainly been bitten once or twice.
If you are worried, thouroughly treat the dog with spray etc (Frontline spray is best). You can also get a household spray to get rid of any ticks or eggs that may remain in furniture etc.
Having had a problem once, I appreciate your paranoia.
Good luck!

They dont just bite you, they live on you and can give you lymes disease which is horrible and hard to cure. To remove them from your dog use tweezers and TURN them (so you get the teeth out) anticlockwise.

Just a few bites at first until they crawl in your ear and bite your brain off, that normally only happens about the age of 20. You had a good life didn't you?

Humans CAN get ticks or fleas from their dogs or other pets. If you think you might have them or start to itch non-stop, contact your doctor. He/She can give you an antibiotic or lotion/cream if you have them. Hope this helps.
