I’m going through bad time. I am suffering from guilt.
It was during my college days that I was addicted to
Smoking. My parents came to know about that. I promised
on god and that I will stop it. But I was again succumbed
to it a couple of times. Now I have quit it completely.
Its 2 years since I quit.

Now the things are not going fine with me. I am suffering from the
guilt that I succumbed to it even after promising. I am feeling that
I am getting the punishment for what I did. I am not able to focus
on anything. Will I ever be forgiven?

The first thing that you must do is forgive yourself. Do not let the devil keep bringing this up and torturing you with it. If you have asked God for forgiveness, then it is a done deal. God's forgiveness is permanent---it does not have to be renewed ever time you get a guilty feeling. Stop focusing on the past and concern yourself with today. God lives in the forever present and that is where you need to be. The past was just a moment ago and the future will be just a moment from now. Trust in the Lord to solve all your problem---put everything on him because he can handle it and you cannot. Jesus loves you.

The Christian God is loving and forgiving, so you are already forgiven through the act of asking. Ask your parents for their forgiveness, and I'm sure they will also give it to you.

If you want to perform a penance to demonstrate how sorry you are, you could contact some anti-smoking organisations and see if you can help other young people who are in the position that you were once in, so that they can learn from your experience.

You shouldn't feel guilty for being unable to overcome an addiction. It's like an illness. Like feeling guilty you caught cancer. It's beyond your control, because addictions take over your organism and it is very difficult to overcome them. Besides, guilt makes you more vulnerable and it get more difficult to win your fight. I'm glad you've been eventually able to quit smoking, but don't be so harsh on yourself. It's very difficult to quit smoking, and instead of guilt for falling after you made a promise you were biologically unable to keep, you should be proud you fought on, and eventually won.

It's always good news when someone quits smoking. Good for you!

Jesus H. Christ on rocket powered roller skates. Say three Our Fathers and give it up.
Kid you are racked by unnecessary guilt. You ever kill anybody? No? OK so you haven't done anything that can't be fixed. If you can't stop torturing your self about this nif naf ****, either go out and commit some real sins so you can say you had some real fun or ask your family doctor about a referral to a psychiatrist. Unless you belong to one of those sects that believe in healing only by prayer in which case ..............

If you are Catholic, go to teh Sacrament of Reconciliation and talk it out with the priest. One great thing about the sacrament of Reconciliation is that you get to get it all off of your chest and then HEAR that you are forgiven.

You will get a lot of advice from your priest on how you can really accept that forgiveness. you will also be given help on how to get your life back on the right track.

If you are not Catholic, go talk to your minister. Confess your sins to him or her and ask for advice on how you can forgive yoursel.

Contact me if you have any other questions.

Confess what you feel are wrong doings to God. He is the one who has the power to forgive you. Let the guilt go.

of course you will be forgiven but every sin has a punishment...you kept your promise and as long as you keep it, you'll be fine...don't feel guilty because you promised yet you were tempted...just remember the promise you made to God and do your best not to be tempted to do any evil action against God's will...

You are forgiven if you are truly sorry. Don't dwell on the negative, be happy that you finally conquered smoking. I commend you on your two years of freedom from smoke. Keep up the good work and be proud of it.
