she will go outside and keep squatting, but nothing comes out until we're not watching her inside. Then she pees. She makes it through the entire night without going. Been on meds for 2 1/2 days - is it the UTI that is causing the problem, or is she just not housetrained? She does go #2 outside all the time. Anyone else with this problem, and how do you handle it. I hate to confine her because she is so affectionate and loves to be around people.

My dog has had constant UTIs. Fortunately, he generally tells me when he has to potty. He has, on occasion, peed inside when he's feeling particularly fussy about being ignored. I kennel him when I'm not home, and when I'm home I let him out on a pretty regular schedule.

With a young dog, to get them into the habit of going potty outside, I've heard that you should take them out regularly to get them accustomed to the idea that outside is for potty, inside is not.

Your problem is probably a combination of the UTI and not quite housetrained yet. Talk to your vet about it, they will have information on both things. And buy a wet/dry vac and some really good carpet cleaner/deodorizer.
