Apparently it's to do with the average height of surfaces and tables in the home.. the slice of toast only has time to rotate in the air once. Drop the toast from a greater height and it would land jam side up. Alternatively eat your toast jam side down and when you drop it it'll land right way up. Saw a TV prog about it.

the jam side is heavier and gravity pulls heavy things faster than lighter ones. If you fall from a very high place you will land on your head as it is heavier than your body (supposingly). This example is seen in babies because when they sleep their head points towards ground . Than take the example of a paper, it lands softer on the ground as it is lighter. So your toast has the two things together and as the heavier part goes 1st on the ground, there is no other option for the clear toast part

I don't know why -maybe the side with the jam is heavier? Or the height of your table might have something to do with it. I'm no Isaac Newton though, sorry. It could be the same law that always makes me want one last slurp of tea only to discover that I finished it already.

i think you were just unlucky. the difference in wieght on jam/un-jam sides wouldn't be enough to affect the outcome. did you always drop it from the same height? if so maybe there is just enough time for the toast to turn in the 1 x number of times?
Try it from a different height....?

actually your wrong...did you see the mythusters episode on this very topic they dropped 200 pieces of buttered bread and you had an equal chance of it landing the right way up...it does depend on height as it needs to do 360 degree flip to land the right way....so stand up in future when you eat your toast.....thats what mythbusters showed anyway ....i havent a clue why....sods law

Try putting your toast in a bowl. It is much less likely to fall.

It might be due to one side being lubricated and the other side being rough. This may have some effect on its aerodynamics during the fall.

the jam side is heavier, but its annoying cause it always seems to happen, and your little test just confirms that too
