My son gets hand me downs from friends of ours. His drawers are overflowing. I want to pare it down, so I am wondering people's opinion about how many shorts, pants shirts, etc a three year old actually needs.

depends on how much laundry you want to do.

I'd say a pair of pants for each day of the week, plus one. And double as many shirts, plus five sweaters. Socks undies and pj's.

Children dont need more clothes than you do, and they certainly dont need more than what you can house. Who wants to do all that laundry anyway? You just want to make sure he has enough to get through the week until laundry day, should he soil or stain something.

I personally think because they outgrow things so fast at that age you can never have enough clothes. I am so thankful that my friend has 2 older boys. I get so many clothes. It saves me alot of money. I mean these aren't old raggedy hand me downs, they are still in excellent condition. As well at that age, they also get dirty and have many accidents, so they may need to change several times a day. My son has overflowing drawers too, but I think its better than not having enough.

How often do you want to do laundry? we are talking 3 year old boy correct? They get messy and dirty so if you are looking at laundry 1 or 2 times a week I would say a couple of pair of shorts per day in the summer a pair of jeans per day in the winter many many many shirts so quite a lot actually. Unless your little boy lives in a plastic bubble than one per day is sufficiant.

I like to have 10-12 days worth of clean outfits plus a few nice going-out-to-visit-granma's outfits, for each season. That means 10 winter outfits, 10 fall/spring outfits, and 10 summer outfits.
I try to do his laundry once a week, but by having 10 days worth of outfits, If I havent done laundry in 8 days and had to change his outfit twice, I still have some clothes left.
Oh, and I like having about 5-6 pyjamas. He wears them for two nights then I put in in the laundry basket.

HI!I have a son of 2 and a half and a son of five and from my experience they never have enough clothes! if they go outside to play i have to change them at least twice if not more, unless they find some water to jump in or stand under the outside tap then it can be changing clothes multiple times. boys will be boys so keep the stock high, and what Ive done lately is divide all his clothes in sections, jeans in one pile, jumpers in another and so on it makes life so much easier. have fun and best of luck!

I would say that he needs play clothes and good clothes. He needs two weeks worth of out fits for play and at least 5 or 6 going away outfits.
Children have a tendancy of staining their close and then its one less shirt so maybe keep a couple extra tops for just that reason.
As far as P.J.s go Id say a weeks worth maybe.
A couple of jackets and heavier sweater if it gets cold where you are.

at least 2 outfits per day in case of accidents... as far as underwear and socks the more the better... 14 shorts pants and maybe more shirts... but other then that its a bit of an overkill.....

It depends on how often you do laundry and how many outfits a day he goes through. If he uses one outfit a day and you do laundry once a week, then 7 or 8 should do it.

I have a 3 year old daughter and I just got her a whole new wardrobe for th winter/school season. right now she has about 10 outfits. i will probably end up getting her more, but i think whatever his dresser can hold is efficient.
