Ask him if he's still in touch with anyone from the old firm.
Once the conversation is up and running, tell him you're busy and new to the company, so you can't carry it on.
Suggest finishing the conversation another time out of work (as soon as possible, as you're dying to know about the old crowd).
If he's up for it, he'll suggest a time and a place. If he's not up for it he'll just say yes but not give you a time.

I think you should wait, if you jus got the job you need to get more familiar with your surroundings there then letting a relationship interfere with that. Give it more time if he is interested youwon't have to do much to get his attention anyway he will come to you. If it seems he not paying you any attention then he probably is not and putting yourself out there might make you look desperate and unprofessional.

Ask about his old girlfriend and what his dating status is now. This direct question, asked in a casual way, will get at the crux of the matter and set him on the path to pursue you.
Good luck.

Leave your knickers on his desk with a little note saying you want them back! Then take him to the ladies' loo and ask him to help you put them back on...
Or you could hide under his desk and then unzip him when he sits down ....
Well, you did say you wanted to get his attention!
