I think it would definitely have a negative influence on the child's personality if the child was ever told that there was an intention to abort them. However, if they were given up for adoption and so they never knew, or if the parents could be adult enough never to indicate this, I don't see how it could have an effect.
Also, if the parents intended to abort the child, but something special came and changed their minds, it might actually give the child a whole other perspective on life.

This is one of the best questions I think I have ever heard-you are into an area that I don't beleive anyone has ever gone.
Does the fetus know-I beleive yes because the fetus reacts to many stemuli from the Mom.
As you are in an area unknown,it puts you on very thin ice,no one has been there before. As I'm sure you know there are many questions that would have to be answered1)How would you find females who would be willing to admit thoughts of abortion2)If (Big if)you were able to find your study group-are you prepared to follow this group for 20-30-40 years3)Under what situation was the Mom influenced to not abort4)I would not persume to educate you on women's rights-as just by asking the question you must be a very educated young person(one who has a great future).
As you know at some point we are all ejected, rejected form the womb, and at least for males,we spend the rest of our lives trying to find our way back.
Your question brings to the front religious, moral, spiritial issues.A fetus is a gift from the Creator, whom I belives allows souls to pick where they will go,according to their growth needs. If for whatever reason abortion iis an issue for the Mom,or Madona,I beleive the fetus or soul knows the odds and is willing to take the chance.Does it influence the outcome-If the Madona keeps the fetus,is it her decision-if yes what mother dosen't want the best for her child,as best as she give.
The choice to abort is not an easy one, only one the Madona can answer-yes in the immidiate her (what she thinks is a problem)decision will have long term effects that were never considered-she and she alone will till the day of discorperation, will morn that loss.
As I beleive and the Law of the USA states-she has that right to choose and as a RN I would support her right to choose,it's her body not mine.
In Phyics-any action starts an equal and oppisite reaction. As I stated early on-your question as stated moves you close to the spirital and the
Creator,as I also beleive only through mediation would She give you some answer.
Excellent question-best of luck in what I think will be wonderous.

I think a lot of women consider their options when they first learn they are pregnant and must decide whether they are prepared to raise a child. They may consider abortion, adoption, and what kind of support that they have. I believe that most babies born in the US are all wanted even though the mother may have considered abortion for a while. Decades ago unwed mothers were sent away and their babies taken from them. Many of them were wanted also.
For your study, how can you measure the emotions of a hormonal pregnant woman who may have entertained the idea of abortion for a few days or weeks or months? How many will honestly report the ups and downs at this time?
I think that there are very few women that go threw the whole pregnancy not wanting the baby. The only cases I can think of are drug addicts that go through with it for the extra money they may get for the child for drugs. Then you cannot measure the effects of the mother's emotions to the baby when you are also measuring the effects of the drugs to the baby.

A fetus does not have the ability to perceive being wanted or unwanted in the womb. A woman who gives birth unwillingly is more likely to cause any affect by the way a child is treated and how much resentment it perceives.
You may believe this, but it's scientifically ridiculous and it's also part of the nonsense Scientology teaches.

that depends on the mothers reactions when the child lives. If she disregards him and starves him of maternal affection obviously he will have emotional issues. If she changes her mind and decides that the baby is what she really wanted, the child has as good a chance as any, maybe even better because this woman has made a concerted decision to keep this baby. it is a choice for her and once she has made her choice she accepts the consequences of her choice

I agree with you, my parents did not mean to get pregnant with my younger sister and both said that they were not happy with the situation. They decided to have her anyway and were happy afterwards that they made that decision to keep her. My sister (who is now 17), however, is rotten and has been a pain to my parents ever since she was a toddler. My mom thinks it is her fault, because she believes that when my sister was in the womb, she could feel that she was not wanted.
I think that your hypothesis is valid and that you are on to something. Please continue with your research I'm sure it would be relevant to many people (unfortunately).

That happened to me. Years ago, while discussing abortion with my family, my mother told me while she was pregnant with me she wanted to have an abortion. My father talked her out of it, thankfully! It hurt my feelings, made me feel unwanted. That conversation made me feel like I was against abortion. After thinking and thinking about my situation, I realized , who am I to tell a woman what to do with their body?
