The best food is the best food i.e. the more expensive foods. You do not want your cat to have a diet that is 2/3 corn and this is the content of all grocery store, nationally advertised brands.

You need to get your cat's food from a small, owner-operated pet store. The people who run these stores are usually very knowledgeable about the foods they sell and will not even carry Science Diet, for which there is a great demand, because they consider it an inferior food.

For a male cat I feel it is important to have a diet of 50% canned and 50% dry as male cats are particularly prone to have urinary problems and need the most moisture you can get into their diet to forestall this problem.

I use CA Natural (chicken and rice), Natural Balance (venison and pea). NB also has a chicken and rice. Nature's Variety (Prairie) has a chicken and tapioca. There are many good brands and those just happen to be the ones I am using at present. Consult with the store owner and learn to read the labels on the pet food bag or can.

I work for a vet and we recommend Hills Persription Brand C/D-s
This has the right amount of vitamins and other ingredients your guy will need and it is a food that you will not have to change as he gets older unless he developes other health problems as he ages inwhich the Hills Perscription Brand makes other food to help with whatever health problems that may arise with the aging of your pet. You can buy this brand in the dry form or in the cans if you feed moist food. Only sold at a vets office who carries that brand.
You may pay a little more then you would if you bought like Friskies etc but its a better quality of food and in the end we want to do what we think is best for your cat right?
Dont forget to have your pet vaccinated every year and have him neutered. You'll have a happier and healthier pet and you will enjoy him more.

I feed Science Diet to my Siamese male cat, and he does extremely well on this well balanced food. He does not need snacks or anything else.

Medical Preventive formula, strictly sold in vet clinics. That's what my kitty's on. I know it's sold in Canada, but I'm not sure but the USA. Depending on where you're from, ask your vet about it, or they may have something similar and high quality as well.

If you wanna stick to pet store brands, go for brands like Science Diet, Royal Canin, Iams, Purina...these are all highest quality for pet store sold foods.

I can't afford the higher priced, vet only foods. I free choice feed dry Purina and supplement with frequent fresh meat, veggies if they want them, from my own plate and rarely a spoon of tuna or saucer of milk.
the vet tells me they are healthy and happy, no problems here!

Dry food, but the vet would be a better person to ask.
